Wait Before Making the Switch to CFL Bulb Technology
The shift from Incandescent Light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL’s) bulbs is generally viewed as a positive within the Green movement. CFL’s can last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs and use up to 75% less energy. All good things. But are CFL’S truly the answer? DitchCarbon.com says…not yet. We have serious concerns about the Mercury used in CFL’S to help create the energy savings. The average CFL contains about 5 milligrams of Mercury. Multiply that by the billions of bulbs projected to be replaced, and we think widespread CFL applications become seriously problematic.
A better technology currently under development is the LED (Light Emitting Diode) bulb. LED bulbs offer consumers the best of both worlds. The energy savings and superior lighting technology of the CFL and the eco-friendly disposal that CFL’s can’t deliver. LED technology is currently being developed that will make the switch from incandescent affordable and seamless. We urge our customers to wait a while before making the switch to CFL technology. In the meantime, continue energy saving practices like timer switches and motion detectors systems. Visit our store and see the huge variety of energy savings products currently available for you.
